These days power hitting is an integral part of modern cricket. Their opponents usually defeat teams who lack power hitting ability. It has been so long since Pakistan has not seen a batsman who can score big at his will. Moreover, potential players like Ahmad Shahzad & Umar Akmal who once were compared with Virat Kohli has lost their stamina.
Ahmad Shahzad and Umar Akmal both are not regular players in the team. Pakistan has felt the need of a power hitter in the recent series against Australia. Pakistan was whitewashed by the Australian, but the point that Pakistani coach has taken from his team’s defeat is that Pakistan was short of 30 to 40 runs in all matches.
“It is an area of concern,” said Mickey Arthur in Lahore. We have to make sure we let our guys play at their position choosing, said Mickey Arthur.
He said Faheem Ashraf is such an experiment and he has shown tremendous potential. We will give more batting time to Faheem Ashraf in the future. We are now working hard on Imad Wasim, Hassan Ali & Shadab Ali. Except for Imad Wasim, both of these players cannot hit big to long distance.
Recent series against Australia provided an excellent opportunity to test their skills. Unfortunately, the final results were not we hoping. Pakistan inducted Asif Ali to make progress in this area. He was later asked to rest for 11 matches. The main reason for his rest was that he was not adjusting to the demands of the format. Pakistani management was hoping that Asif Ali could increase his stay on the crease but it, unfortunately, it never happened.
The Pakistani Cricket team has tested Umar Akmar in this series against Australia, but he was not up to the expectations either. Umar Akmal only scores 15 runs in 5 ODIs. Moreover, Umar Akmal also got few disciplinary warnings.
Inzamam Ul Haq and Mickey Arthur are now working on the final squad list for the ICC world cup. It will be quite a challenge for the Pakistani team to face the teams who are full of power hitting batsmen.
Let’s see what the Pakistani team do at the ICC Cricket world cup.
